PROJECTS WE'RE LAUNCHING

SPERM DONOR X (in post-production/ to be completed in 2008), a 75 minute documentary that looks at 5 diverse women, including the director, as they navigate the bizarre waters of picking a sperm donor to be the genetic material of their child over the internet. Though 4 out of 5 struggle over the decision, the fact is that right now in this country only 6% of children will spend their childhood in a "traditional family," meaning two straight people who marry first, have children and don't separate. The doc ultimately challenges the fantasy family and explores the joyous alternative families, including both biological and adopted children, that these women found at the end of what seemed like a terrible second choice.

SPERM DONOR X has just received a New York State Council of the Arts (NYSCA) grant, and was screened at the 2007 IFP market.

We are also in development on BOYCODE a hard hitting dramatic educational video that depicts the genderstraitjacketing among boys that requires them to be aggressive and unemotional to fit in. Based on "off the record interviews", the project (tape and study guide) is targeted to boys 11-15 (when boys hitting puberty are particularly susceptible to peer pressure) for use in schools and community programs nationwide.

Both SPERM DONOR X AND BOYCODE need funds to take them to the next stage. As projects fiscally sponsored by Women Make Movies, any contributions to either is totally tax deductible. Our independent documentary STILL DOING IT:The Intimate Lives Of Women Over 65 received the first annual Margaret E. Condon Memorial Award for "bringing fresh perspectives to the aging experience" and an honorable mention from the Silver Images Film and Video Awards. It is currently having wide educational distribution through New Day Films, a thirty five year old, member-run social issue distributor with a roster of award-winning films and is being sold around the world through FilmsTransit International.

Our educational video DEALING WITH TEEN DATING ABUSE:Matters Of Choice won a CINE Golden Eagle.
